Alignment of sections to film

We previously used the Paste Control Operation in NIH-Image to align film images of histologically-stained sections which produced the film image in order to select a Region of Interest from the section for analysis on film. Is there a macro to accomplish this or simplify the process using ImageJ?

Please can you explain in more detail what it is exactly what you are trying to do,
and provide sample images.

then we can give you a concrete solution....
there are many nice tools in Fiji and imageJ plugins.
I expect there is something that fits your application,
if you can describe it better,
