Have some ~ 40 MP JPEGs that I want to be able to zoom right in, eg >400%, until I can clearly see individual pixels, and then set a crop line.
Is this possible with ImageJ? If yes would appreciate suggestions. Thanks Ken |
Hi Ken,
Yes, you can do this. Put the cursor where you want to zoom. Press the + key repeatedly to reach the desired zoom level. Maximum zoom is 3200% -- more than enough to see pixels. Make a rectangular ROI. Use the - (minus) key to zoom out as needed and adjust the corners. Image > Crop to complete the cropping. Hi Theresa, Reason for late response is I had a number of projects to complete. Thanks for the tip! "Put the cursor where you want to zoom. Press the + key repeatedly to reach the desired zoom level. Maximum zoom is 3200%" As an ImageJ beginner I have tried to read the user guide and man but found no mention which is why I posted. Any recommendations concerning tutorials... Would like to use ImageJ on different Windows PCs without installing so a portable ImageJ is what I would like to download. Googled using "imagej portable windows" and found "Downloads - Fiji fiji.sc/Downloads Fiji Dec 22, 2014 - ImageJ will run on any system that has a Java 6 (or later) runtime installed. ... Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8 with Java installed from java.com; Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" ... ImageJ and Fiji are distributed as portable applications." Do not know the difference between ImageJ and Fiji so went to Fiji (software) wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiji_%28software%29 and read "One of Fiji's principal aims is to make the installation of ImageJ, Java, Java 3D, the plugins, and further convenient components, as easy as possible. As a consequence, Fiji enjoys more and more active users." As beginner this seems good to me, problem is the Windows PCs I use do not have Java 6 (or later) runtime installed. Is there a version that has everything needed in a portable Windows app? Thanks again for your help! Ken ________________________________ From: "Swayne, Theresa C. Hi Ken,
> Do not know the difference between ImageJ and Fiji See the top of http://imagej.net/Fiji for an explanation. Please ask if anything is not clear, so that we can improve the documentation. > As beginner this seems good to me, problem is the Windows PCs I use do > not have Java 6 (or later) runtime installed. Is there a version that > has everything needed in a portable Windows app? The Windows Fiji downloads include a Java JRE, so you do not need to install one separately. However, the version bundled is Java 6 (1.6.0_24) which is very old, with many bugs since fixed in Java 7 and Java 8. Personally I would advise using a newer version of Java. We will be updating the bundles later this year to include a newer version of Java, as time allows [1]. In the meantime, you can certainly replace the version of Java in the "Fiji.app/java" folder with your own preferred version of the JRE.
