Automatic Marking of 'Spots' in Stack

I would like to flag hypointense regions in a image stack that could
later be examined manually.


I envision that the 'dark spots' would be filled in with:

* red if they overlap with dark spots in the next two stack slices, or

* blue if they overlap with dark spots in the next stack slice only


There seems to be a 'stack processing' piece and an 'recognition' piece
to this.


I am hoping that someone could point me in the right direction to
plugins that could be used/modified for such a problem.
