Belgian Neuroinformatics Node Fall Hackathon 2014
Start Time:13 Oct 2014
End Time:15 Oct 2014
Where:Imec, Kapeldreef 75, Leuven, Belgium
Detailed functional mapping of the brain is one of the grand challenges of 21st century Neuroscience. In large scale in vivo experiments, brain activity is inferred from optical recording of indicator signals. In doing so the researchers use variety of activity patterns that are recorded from large assemblies of neurons. On the other hand, it is still difficult to objectively parse and classify such patterns of activity.
To help addressing this issue, the Belgian Neuroinformatics Node, with the support of IMEC, NERF and VIB, is organizing a hackathon for automatic parsing of activity of neuronal populations. We invite young software developers versed in Java and/or Python to help us addressing this challenge. We expect that the hackathon will result in a generic toolbox for analysis of dynamic (calcium) signals.
In order to facilitate the process, recognized experts in the field Neuroscience and Bioimaging Informatics will guide the participants during the workshop. Participation is free of charge but subject to application.
Confirmed speakers:
Sebastian Munck, VIB, Leuven
Vincent Bonin, NERF, Leuven
Dimiter Prodanov, IMEC, Leuven
Michele Giugliano, UAntwerpen, Antwerpen
