Brain tumor volume measurement on MRI

meiyun wang
 Dear all,

I would like to get brain glioma volume measuremeats on MR images. Could
anyone please recommend a plugin for doing this?
I would appeciate it verty much! I have tested it using ImageJ but not find
a good way to do it.

Thank you very much,
Meiyun

Dear Meiyun,

There are a whole suite of plugins in Fiji
(http://pacific.mpi-cbg.de/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) that are designed
for 3D measurement of isolated objects.  Fiji is a plugin preloaded
version of ImageJ that has lots of useful plugins for things like
medical imaging.  If you want to get even more in depth then you can use
the DICOM format as well, which Fiji also supports.  There are a couple
of routes you could go on this.  I believe that TrakEM2 can take CT
measurements, but I'm not sure.  You can binarize your images and just
measure the entire histogram if that's all you're interested in,
provided that you can binarize it properly.  Bonej (bonej.org) has a 3D
purify function to fill in any 3D holes leftover from thresholding, and
you'll find some good flood fill segmentation algorithms in Fiji as
well.  I hope that helps, and good luck.

Ari Zwick
