Calculating Delta E from two images

Hello experts

I'm trying to figure out how to do the following task, but so far without any success:

I got two images captured by digital camera, one representing a untreated sample (reference), another one representing a treated sample. I want to calculate the colour difference Delta E* between these two images either of the whole image area or on a particular area to be specified.

Is there any plugin or known approach how to do that with ImageJ ?

I am very thankful for any help or hints.
