Calculating the line length/distance of a Curved/freehand line to measure surface roughness?

Larissa Naylor
Hi,

We've found some interesting variations in x-section surface roughness of rocks weathered under different conditions. We'd like to quantify the differences in surface roughness (micron scale) between treatment types. The distance tool only allows us to draw straight lines. What I am interested in knowing is whether there is a way of measuring the distance of a curved/freehand line that you draw along the contours of the surface? This would allow us to determine the line length and compare this to a crow flies straight distance to calculate the surface roughness for each treatment type.

Any suggestions, including other potential solutions such as  using the surface area tool, would be most welcome.

Many thanks in advance,
Larissa
