Calibrating color values using MacBeth Color Checker to get L*a*b* values

Rie Sadohara
I am using the MacBeth Color Checker Chart and an Image J Plugin,
Chart_White_Balance (
http://imagejdocu.tudor.lu/doku.php?id=plugin:color:chart_white_balance:start)
to calibrate color. I am interested in getting L*, a*, b* values out of my
images using Lab stack. Because my samples will be imaged over two years, I
want to accomodate potential changes in color values due to the light bulb
being one year old. I have 2 questions;

   1. It only uses six squares of black to white shades. How about other
   colors? Can I specify the Lab values for each color in the other three rows
   in the MacBeth Color Checker Chart?
   2. I have an image of MacBeth Color Checker Chart and many images of my
   samples, and they do not have the Color Checker Chart in them. Is there a
   way to save the color calibration setting to Image J so that I can measure
   Lab stack of many sample images under standardized
   (color-calibrated) setting?

Your help is much appreciated.
