Complex shape and colour detection

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me with the following:

I have a series of images with red discolouration and what to auto-detect the shape of the red areas and, if possible, auto measure the RGB values inside. I have been playing around with colour threshold etc. but it has issues detecting the lower intensity discolourations.



Any ideas would be much appreciated!
