Count Boxes

Hi

I am trying to find a way of count images in the attached photo. I applied a Canny Edge Filter and managed to get good edge detection. How should now go about counting the total number of boxes present. I thought about detecting continuous vertical lines and dividing by 2 but maybe there is a better way.
