Curve Fitting in Image J

Bourn, David
Hi Image J List,

I need to get some advice on where I start or if someone has a macro or plug-in that can do the following. Basically I want to fit a centerline to a "fuzzy black caterpillar". The existing skeletonize does not fit this purpose as it biases a centerline fit of the curve to the inside of the curve rather than the true center. I would like to get a more accurate centerline of this object. If anyone has an idea or needs more information I have a ppt file with some pictures that better describe the problem. Any help would be immensely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Re: Curve Fitting in Image J

Justin McGrath
Edgar Spalding from the University of Wisconsin has an algorithm to
find the center line of roots, which seems like a very similar
problem.  I don't remember the algorithm, and it's not described on
his website http://phytomorph.wisc.edu/phytomorph.htm .  However, I
think he's published the details, or you contact him.
