Display intensity bit depth (Options>Appearance)

PEARSON Matthew
Hi all,

There is a setting in imageJ whereby you can set the default display intensity bit depth, found in Edit>Options>Appearance

By default its set to Automatic.  I've noticed that when i open Micro-Manager ome tiffs in ImageJ/FIJI that the automatic option clips the intensities to the data.  i.e. if my image has a minimum of 120 and a max of 5000 the brightness contrast can only be adjusted within that range.  I assume this is the correct behaviour of the "Automatic" clip to data min/max?

If i always acquire images on a 14bit camera and i want to set the display intensity bit depth to 14bit by default, how can i make ImageJ/FIJI remember this even when i quit the application?

Thanks for the help,

Matt

Hi Matt,

I use the "startup..." feature to run a macro that automatically opens some plugins I use frequently on start-up. If you could write or record a macro to set imageJ to 14-bit you could paste it into the start up window and I think that could do what you are looking for. It is under Edit->Options->start up in plain imageJ, not sure about fiji. Hope that idea helps.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for that, for some reason i thought i wouldn't be able to call this feature from a macro.  It was also mean that every users installation would require this addition to the startup macro but i can live with that.  I think it would be nice if it could just remember how it was set last and remain that when on application quit, but i can see that this could also cause issues for some people if they didn't know how to access the appearance settings.

Thanks,

Matt
