Displaying Raw Intensities

Naveen Krishnan
Hi,

I have found that ImageJ, like many other programs that display images (i.e.
Irfanview) autoscales brightness/contrast such that the image is presenting
as enhanced a signal as possible. Now when you are trying to compare
intensities between sets of images based on the appearance of the image
(versus looking at the numbers) this may lead to confusion, while ImageJ
alters properties of the image when it presents it to you the raw pixel
values for intensity don't change. I am wondering if there is a quick way to
use ImageJ to present the raw images that reflect the pixel intensities
without ImageJ "enhancing" the image in any way.

Much Appreciated,

Naveen

Hi Naveen,

not really true!!!! Depends on the type of Image, an 8-bit image is
displayed as is, 16 and 32 bit are autoscaled after loading,
but you can override this via Image/Adjust/Window/Level, you can even set
explicit values for "intermediate" grey and and range ("width").
You can also propagate these setting to all open windows (of the same
"bitness", i assume), which might be what you need!
