Drivers (PC) for a Scion VG5 framegrabber card

hwrichards
I know, I know, this is a very old card, and the company is no longer in business. But their framegrabber cards are still available from several resellers, and on eBay. But they never come with the drivers (I've asked).

Does anyone have these drivers?

Anyone with a Bio-Rad Gel Doc 2000 will have this card. (I'd even accept a clone of the hard drive :P)

There is a link in the IJ site to a plugin ScionFGAkiz, (not sure if that
included the drivers) but that link is now defunct. Surprisingly the wayback
machine has several snapshots, for example:

https://web.archive.org/web/20110927035003/http://www.msc.univ-paris-diderot.fr/~daerr/progs/ScionFGAkiz/

and that links to other snapshots of the original scion site that might be
what you want:

https://web.archive.org/web/20091226055811/http://www.scioncorp.com/pages/downloads_grabber_discont.htm

Unfortunately the files themselves do not seem to be there, but I did not try
all the snapshots. If you can trace the author of the plugin (is it Adrian
Daerr?) maybe he has a copy of the drivers.

Cheers

Gabriel

Check out this company.  They look like they might be able to help.

Thanks for the reply, Don.

I contacted Meyer Instruments (spoke with the owner actually). That page was kept active just as a reference for the card's specs. They do have some sweet alternatives to the VG5 but I'm going for cheap as this machine is used only for imaging gels.

Thanks for the reply Gabriel. ScionFGAkiz is a java interface that interfaces with the framegrabber.

According to the README:

"JNIAkiz concerns you only if you have a frame grabber board from Scion
Corp. and you want to acquire images in ImageJ from Wayne Rasband or
in some other Java program.
...
It has been optimized and tested only on MacOS X systems, but should
also compile on other systems for which Scion provides its library."

I may be able to get that to work under Linux but it won't work with Windows I'm sure. Which means we still couldn't use Bio-Rad's Quantity One software. Most people in my lab are familiar with that software.

I'll contact the author to see if he has any (Windows) drivers. I'm guessing not since this was written for Mac...
