Fiji website down

Dear fellow scientists,

our trusty Fiji server in Dresden is not so trusty anymore, but instead
met its end.

The name 'fiji.sc' will soon be resolved to the same computer that hosts
the read-only Fiji Wiki mirror (which will soon be *the* Fiji Wiki):
fiji.imagej.net. It might take a while until the DNS settings trickled
through to you. In the meantime, please use http://fiji.imagej.net/

For those of you who still have not updated their bookmarks from
pacific.mpi-cbg.de to fiji.sc in all those years, this is the time to do
so.

Such things always happen at the most inconvenient time, and this is not
an exception. Please bear with us, we will need a little bit of time to
get things half-way back to normal.

P.S.: My major priority is to get the Fiji Wiki back up. The update site
should be next. The developer resources might not come back at all.

Hi Johannes,

just now it seems that the server is back and running perfectly fine.  I
am therefore curious to know what `met its end' means exactly.  Is the
machine broken?  If so which parts?  Or did it just have a hick-up,
crashed and needed a person pressing the power button to restart?  The
latter would probably enable a much smoother transition.

What you see as "fiji.sc" is now another computer. The old computer is
gone. It won't boot up, its warranty has expired, we will never hear its
lovely humm.

The hard disk of pacific.mpi-cbg.de (which served fiji.sc for the past ~2
years) is now in a different computer that is the new pacific.mpi-cbg.de.
Back when the MPI-CBG had an image processing facility, first headed by
Jean-Yves Tinevez, then by yours truly, and then by Daniel James White, it
was quite clear on whose budget the machine ran. This is no longer clear,
and therefore the new server is just a temporary solution, put in place
very quickly and helpfully by Matt Boes of the MPI-CBG's IT department.

To resolve this unclear situation, Curtis Rueden and me worked on getting
the Wiki and a couple of developer resources back up and running on a
server hosted at LOCI in Madison.

As I said, the machine does not boot up anymore. The hard disk might have
problems because some operations are really slow.

thanks for clarifying and for your hard work to getting back into
operation.  It's been relieving for me to see that the data is
accessible and in place, probably saving many of us from painfully
collecting distributed bits and pieces.

I don't remember to having said anything extraordinarily kind (probably
