Fiji won't open usingJava Version 1.7 on Mac OS Mavericks

Robert Lockwood
I installed Fiji on my iMac under Mountain Lion a while back and it worked
with Java 1.7.  Now that I have Mavericks installed I get a complaint when
I try to open it (ImageJ, too) that Java 1.6SE is required and do I want to
install 1.6.  It works quite well on my work Linux (Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit)
with Java 1.7.
I just uninstalled Fiji and then downloaded and reinstalled it but I have
the same error.

Is there a workaround for this?

Nate

Thanks.  Will that do anything to my Java 7?

Hi Robert,

I do not know about the Fiji launcher (you could ask on the Fiji-devel
mailing list), but the ImageJ launcher on OS X does not work with Java 1.7.
To use Java 1.7, you have to run ImageJ from the command line. ImageJ
works fine on Mavericks as long as you install Java 1.6 when prompted.

Best regards,

-wayne

Fwd: Fiji won't open usingJava Version 1.7 on Mac OS Mavericks

That's good.  My primary programming is at work ( Ubuntu 64 bit and Java
7)  but I sometimes want to try some ImageJ coding while working at home
where all I have are a couple of macs using Mavericks.  I was reluctant to
install Java 6 in case it would overwrite Java 7.

No. They can coexist.
