How are particles numbered in "Analyze Particles"?

Danju Men
Hi all,

I have the following binary grid pattern I want to analyze using the
"Analyze Particles" function.  The resulted image with numbered particles
usually looks like this (with numbering starting from upper left corner,
goes row by row in sequence):

However, for some of the images, the sequence of numbering got messed up,
e.g. number 1 particle appears in the middle of row 1, etc. (shown as below)

Does anyone know why? Is there any image processing I can do to make
particle numbering in order again?

Thanks,

Danju

You could analyze the problem by enabling "Bounding Rectangle" in "Measurements", and observe the "BY" column, which should always have descending order - and where y-values are equal, left-to-right order is applied.

I guess you could solve your problem by slightly rotating the image to the right.
