How to count cells from scanned images in imageJ

Dear all

I want to request to help me how to count cells or seeds in imageJ from scanned images. i know for digital images from camera its easy e.g. convert to 8 bit- threshold - watershed - measure.

But if its a scanned image then imagej fails to identify correct numbers with the procedure given above. Is there any other way around to solve this issue.
