IMAGE J doubts

Ticiane M F da Cruz
My name is Ticiane and I ´m from São Paulo-Brazil-South America.

I have been working with MRI and T2 technique since august 2012.

I m also using IMAGE J SOFTWARE for my masters degree, but, I have some
doubts about the measure units.

The IMAGE J give you the area, mean, min and max. My answer is: this mean
is in pixels? Or cm2 ? Which one is the unit measure used ?

Thank you in advance

Best Regards

Ticiane Cruz

Hey Ticiane,

this is very easy to check. Create or open an image and create a
rectangular mask on it, but before releasing the mouse button, read the
dimension of this mask from ImageJ's status bar.

Via Analyze -> Set Measurements there is a lot more to measure..

The "Area" is measured in pixels which does absolutely make sense to me,
since other units (i.e. cm2) are related to a density of pixels on a
real or virtual canvas. The "Mean" is calculated by the luminosity of
all pixels of an image/selection and therefore depends on the used
bit-depth, amount of possible different color steps.

Hopefully this helps..

Otherwise there is a lot of documentation around ImageJ.

Best regards,
Rainer
