ImageJ area determination

shriarjun shastry
Hi,

My name is Shriarjun Shastry and I have been doing some projects with
process development in chemical and biochemical engineering.

In one of my recent projects I used the image J software to determine the
area of solids at the bottom of the reactor. I have attached some images.

What would be the best way to determine the area of solids?  I have to do
this many times so I would prefer to know if there is a way I can make
settings on the software so that I get the area results as soon as I put
the image in the software.

I really Appreciate your help.

Let me know

Thanks
Arjun

Re: ImageJ area determination

Christian Liebig-3
Hi Arjun,

I would create a macro, roughly including the following steps:

  * calculate the difference between a picture with solids deposited and
a control picture of the same reactor without any deposits
  * threshold the resulting image
  * "Measure" the whole image (in the "Set Measurements" dialogue you
need to check "area" and "limit to threshold")

Best,

Christian
