ImageJ2 stable release coming later this spring

ctrueden
Hi everyone,

Just a quick update that we are planning to make an initial stable release
of ImageJ 2.0.0 later this spring.

The focus of the initial stable 2.0.0 release will be a unified application
bundle that provides several key built-in components--in particular: the
Updater and the Script Editor. While the Fiji distribution of ImageJ has
been structured as this sort of unified bundle for years, Fiji also
includes 300+ plugins focused on the life sciences, which are not
necessarily relevant to every ImageJ user. The ImageJ2 release will include
a set of core components useful to the ImageJ community as a whole, on top
of which projects like Fiji can build.

Here's a blog post explaining in more detail:
http://developer.imagej.net/2014/04/01/imagej-200-stable-release-coming-spring

This release will not be a stable release of all the ImageJ2 components,
but it will notably include:
* ImageJ2's plugin mechanism (SciJava Common)
* The ImageJ2 updater (originally from Fiji)
* The ImageJ2 script editor (originally from Fiji)

Also included in the release, but still considered beta quality, will be:
* The ImageJ2 data model (based on ImgLib2)
* ImageJ2's image I/O mechanism (SCIFIO)
* ImageJ OPS framework for reusable algorithm development

The timeline for the latter components coming out of beta will be longer
term.

Please let us know if you have any questions about it!

Regards,
Curtis
