Hi,
I know PC's, but am clueless about Macs. Someone with a new Mac asked me to help install ImageJ at a conference with only spotty internet access. I tried to install it, but failed. I hope someone can help me to figure out what I did wrong. Sorry if my memory is poor about the details, but in the past it seemed easy to install ImageJ on a Mac. Are things different now? I had an old IJ install zip file(IJ 145) for a mac which I placed on the desktop, double clicked, then navigated into the folder that was created and double clicked on ImageJ. It complained that it needed Java 6.10 (or some flavor of Java 6). OK, so when I was able to get some internet time I downloaded the latest Java for Mac, which was version 7. I installed that on his machine, but ImageJ still required Java 6 and would not work. What is the proper Java needed for ImageJ. If it is not provided anymore on Macs where can I download a version that will work for ImageJ? Would it be possible to have a bomb proof ImageJ installation package that automatically does all the needed steps. I.e just as ImageJ is available for the PC as a self-installing program. Hi Jon,
does it work, if you copy the ImageJ folder into "Applications"? http://rsbweb.nih.gov/ij/docs/install/osx.html#install Best regards, Volker 2013/1/22 Jon Harman <[hidden email]>: > Hi, > I know PC's, but am clueless about Macs. Apple has done several things to make ImageJ installation more difficult. Since OS X 10.7 (Lion), Java is no longer pre-installed so you are prompted to install it the first time you install a Java application. This means you will probably need fast and reliable Internet access to install ImageJ the first time. With OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion), you may get the message "ImageJ64 is damaged and can't be opened". To work around this problem, go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General and set "Allow applications downloaded from:" to "Anywhere". You can restore the original setting once ImageJ is running. ImageJ does not work with Oracle Java 7 because the Apple launcher it uses (JavaApplicationStub) does not support Java 7. To use Java 7, you have to move it to the top of the list in /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences and run ImageJ from the command line using something like "java -jar -Xmx640m ij.jar" -wayne > I had an old IJ install zip file(IJ 145) for a mac which I placed on the > desktop, double clicked, then navigated into the folder that was created > and double clicked on ImageJ.
