Somehow the replay to this quastion went directly to Vanina and not to the list. Not sure why but resend it to the list.

Dear Vanina,
If you run Analyse Particles you have the option to select 'Add to Manager'. This will open the ROI manager which stores each of your particles. If you now select in the image the particle that is dirt (if you have selected one of the ROI/selection tools, and hover over the ROI a hand will appear and you can select this ROI), you will see if you scroll through the list of all the ROIs in the manager that one is selected. If you delete this from the ROI manager, the ROI is deleted from your image. The ROI manager makes it also possible to overlay the ROI obtained using the thresholded image over the original image. Just select the original image and select in the ROI manager "Show All", what will make it easier to select the dirt particles.
Best wishes
Kees

Subject: Introduction and particle analisis
Hello everyone;
This is my
first e mail. My name is Vanina, I´m from Argentina and I am trying to use ImageJ to analyze if the spotted patterns in animals are suitable for individual identification.
While analyzing
(I turn the photo into binary and use particle analysis) i realized that some of the particles are actually dirt on the animals. Is there any way I can exclude such particles from the analysis?
Any other comments
or suggestions will be very welcome; it is my first time using the program Vanina
