No, Khardung La is not the highest motorable road anymore. It was advertised for many years as being over 18,300 feet, but newer surveys showed that its real height is lower. Today, the highest motorable road is Umling La in Ladakh, standing at around 19,300 feet. This is the highest pass open for travellers at present.
BRO (Border Roads Organisation) has also built a new road over Mig La, which is even higher than Umling La. However, this route is not yet open for tourists, as it is currently meant for strategic use and will take time before visitors are allowed.
Khardung La still remains a legendary pass and a favourite spot for people doing
Motorcycle Tours in Himalayas because it offers a true high-altitude riding experience.
