Leaf area measurement without holes

Hello, I am trying to measure the leaf area of the leaves and petioles
scanned in the image attached, but some leaves slightly touch so the area
measure includes the holes that are formed... is there a simple way to
measure only the area of the black parts, excluding all pieces of white
background?
Thank you!

1. You canĀ  take teh histogram and see te count of black pixels.

2. The Particle Analyzer has an option called include holes. If that is
not selected then it will not include the holes in its measurements.
