Limiting the number of points in a spline line

Hi all,

I have an outline to which I need to fit a spline line with exactly 128
points. Is there any way to configure my Edit-Selection-Fit Spline command
to allow me to set the number of points it uses once I've highlighted the
outline of the object I wish to spline using the wand tool? Alternatively,
does anyone have a plugin which will allow me to set the number of points
of my spline?
