MEASURING DISTANCES

Hi everyone,

I need some help... I'm trying to measure the maximum diameter from the center of the circle to the furthest point in the big stain on the right of the image attached. This is to perform quality tests, so the stain represents damage.

If that damage is in contact with the circle, I measure and then use the major axis from the best fitting ellipse... But if they are not in contact as in this case I don't know how to proceed.

Can somebody give me any idea? How can I fill the gap between the two shapes and then select the area with the wand tool?
