MSB in Canada: Opportunities for Crypto and Payments Projects

sobalex7
Anyone who's worked with MSBs in Canada? Could you tell me how much this really opens the door for crypto and payment services? I have a friend who's currently building a small crypto exchange project, and he's seriously considering Canada as an option. He says the regulations are clearer there and it's supposedly easier to enter than in some other countries. However, he's already encountered a ton of issues—banks are reluctant to work with him, and compliance requirements are quite strict. Now we're wondering if this really makes sense, or if it's more theory than practice.

Look, there's definitely some sense in this, but it's important to understand that MSB isn't a "magic button," but simply a foundation from which you can get started. In Canada, MSB is actually capable of handling transfers, crypto, and currency exchange—it's the official format for such things. When I was researching the topic myself, I came across Gofaizen & Sherle, which clearly explains the possibilities it offers. A colleague of mine was launching a payment service, and he went with an existing MSB to avoid waiting for registration. He said it sped up the launch, but then he still had to work closely with AML/KYC and find banks willing to cooperate. So, it's a good foundation, but not a guarantee of an easy life.

As an observer, I can say that fintech is a complex, yet very interesting, field right now. I have several friends who have tried launching similar projects, and everyone has different experiences—some are faster, while others struggle with legal issues. But overall, it's clear that the field is growing, especially given the growth of crypto and digital payments. I think these topics will remain relevant for a long time to come, as the market is still in its infancy.
