Measuring width of branches from a contour-skeleton image

Hello ,

I am a new suscriber, working on plants. I am looking for a plugging that could allow to mesure the width of branch contours, using for example disk diameter which center could be on the skeleton. The best idea is to get these disks automatically or to trace them by hand, and then to get the diameters. Or by any other way.
I have not found for the moment, but the plugging list is so important that probably if someone has an idea, it will help a lot.
