Dear all,
Ive just updated my computer (Intel CoreDuo, 2Gb RAM) to Windows 7 32bits, and the JRE is the Jave 1.7.0_01 [32-bit], and Im running ImageJ 1.46a. I used to run this computer under MS Windows XP, and the maximum memory I allowed ImageJ was 1400Mb. Nowadays, when other software is running on the computer (less memory available for ImageJ), an error message pops up Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine, and I only can run ImageJ when reducing the ImageJ memory usage on the ImageJ.cfg file. I have also realized that ImageJ is using less memory than the allocated on the ImageJ.cfg file when checking on the About ImageJ tab. Has anybody experienced the same problem? Is it a MS Windows, Java or ImageJ problem? I may have something not properly configured somewhere Thanks a lot, Carles. -- Carles Rentero, PhD Dept. de Biologia Cel·lular, Immunologia i Neurociències Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) Facultat de Medicina - Hospital Clínic de Barcelona Universitat de Barcelona (UB) c/ Casanova, 143 08036 Barcelona SPAIN phone: +34 93 227 5400 ext. 3358 FAX: +34 93 402 1907 |

I may have something not properly configured somewhere… As I do not know the exact configuration of your PC/labtop, I only can guess what the problem might be. Just note that WindowsXP-32bit usually/typically 'allocates' some 300 to 350/400 MB of main memory (very much depending on many other programs installed, like Virus protection, skype, etc). FOr Windows7, this figure on my Laptop (yes, with Window7-64bit) is at about 1.5 GB (!!), without doing any image processing yet, meaning that with a 32bit-system with 2GB 'only', I would not recommend to start to do large dataset image processing under Windows7, at all. - Increasing main memory to 4 GB may help to overcome this problem. (Or you go back to WinXP; but I would not recommend this). Note that on a PC / laptop with 4 GB main memory, a 32bit-OS (WinXP or Win7) will only be able to address some 3.3x GB - the rest (about 0.6 GB) is in fact useless, cannot be addressed, due to the limitations of the OS. (8GB main memory would not help, if the OS is a 32bit version). So for me, I switched to Win7 and 64bit, and ignore the problems of 32bit (then having other problems ...). kind regards, Reinhard -- Prof. Dr. Reinhard Rachel University of Regensburg Centre for EM / Anatomy Faculty of Biology & Preclin.
