OPEN POSITIONS in IMAGING AND FLOW CYTOMETRY

Faretta Mario Romolo
Dear listers,
this is to let you know that our institute is searching people for a newly formed microscopy and image analysis unit.
Feel free to circulate  this announcement to all people who might be interested.
Thanks
Mario

The European Institute of Oncology (IEO: http://www.ieo.it/en) is one of Europe’s most influential cancer
research institutes. The IEO operates as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, linking fundamental and applied
research to clinical activities, patient care and clinical trials. The Department of Experimental Oncology (DEO)
is currently composed of ~250 scientists working in 15 independent research groups and units. DEO is located
within a scientific campus together with two other partner institutions: the FIRC Institute of Molecular
Oncology (IFOM) and the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). The IEO is one of the 13 members of the EULIFE
alliance to promote excellence in life sciences in Europe (http://eu-life.eu).
The IEO has recently created two new functional units, Imaging and Flow Cytometry, and is now seeking
candidates to set up and potentiate these new activities.
IEO is an equal opportunity employer committed to excellence through diversity.
Applications should be sent to: [hidden email]<mailto:[hidden email]> including a CV with a brief description of intents. This call
has an open deadline; applications will be examined until the relevant positions are filled.
SENIOR IMAGING TECHNOLOGIST
We are seeking for an experienced scientist to join the newly formed Imaging Unit of the Department of
Experimental Oncology at the IEO.
The Unit is equipped with state-of-the-art and advanced microscopes that covers widefield and confocal
fluorescence microscopy, living cell imaging, TIRF, and high-content automated microscopy.
The candidate should have a strong experience related to these specified applications. Applicants must also
have good knowledge of hardware configurations, image processing software, and data analysis. This
position will also require good management and communications skills to handle direct interactions with
scientists and with the different Principal Investigators working at IEO.
The successful candidate duties will include the maintenance of instruments, training of users, and assistance
for acquisition and data analysis. He/she will have to interact directly with scientists to provide support in
complex experimental design. It will also be required that the successful candidate will maintain contacts
with the main microscope providers, and contribute to the future development of the IEO Imaging Unit.
Based on his/her seniority, the successful candidate will be involved in the management of the Unit.
A competitive salary will be offered based on experience.
IMAGING TECHNICIAN
We are seeking for a junior scientist with experience in microscopy to join the activity of the newly formed
Imaging Unit of the Department of Experimental Oncology at IEO.
The candidates should have proven experience in immunofluorescence-based assays including sample
preparation, basic knowledge of microscopes hardware as well as of image acquisition, and be familiar with
the use of analytical software (e.g. ImageJ, Metamorph).
The successful candidate will have to contribute to the daily maintenance of the unit infrastructure and to
provide training and support to the different users.
FLOW CITOMETRY TECHNICIAN
We are seeking for a junior scientist with experience in flow cytometry to join the activity of the newly formed
Flow Cytometry Unit of the department of Experimental Oncology at IEO.
The candidates should have experience with flow cytometry techniques including sample preparation.
Candidates should also have demonstrated ability in using both analyzers and cell sorters, as well as in the
analysis of flow cytometry data
The successful candidate will have to contribute to the daily maintenance of the instruments, to provide
training and support to the users, and to perform sample acquisition and cell sorting for the scientists as a
service.
