Hello everyone,
we recently came across the difficulty of sorting filters/tools into appropriate categories in a more general manner. Many software packages use their own group names which differ a lot and the best way is to search for a distinct filter via i.e. "Find command (Strg+L)" [in ImageJ] in contrast to snooping through the menu structures. If you want to help, building a general hierarchy for every type of filter known to you, please have a look here. https://edupad.ch/V44Z6j0MLG Everyone can make edits to this document! So feel free to go on. I hope this works .. I'm also open for discussions (here), since I wonder myself, where to sort one or another filter/tool. Any help is much appreciated. Hi Rainer,
This is a noble effort. If the community settles on some standards here, we would love to see the categories at http://imagej.net/Techniques reflect the same terminology. Hey Curtis,
you may be right about that. But it would be nice to have this kind of reference/standard. Even if it isn't perfect in every case, it sure would provide a sustainable overall structure. Speaking for ImageJ i.e., the binary filters refer to a certain data type and provide different tools for processing. This is nice, as long as these "filters" do only work on this type of image data. But I would like do be more general, since min/max (Erode/Dilate)-Filters would also apply on higher quantization and multiple channel images i.e. in compositing. I added a question block underneath the list and I will also try to incorporate the list you provided.
