please have a look at

then choose your OS and scroll to the "Command Line"-section.
The advice given for MacOS isn't perfectly correct though.
For Java 8 you must use
java -jar -Xmx1024m ImageJ.app/contents/java/ij.jar
Can't help you with the other platforms.
