Particle Rotation

Russell Crook
Greetings,

I am working on a project that involves measuring the exposed surface area
of an ellipsoidal particle embedded in a clear polymer elastomer while
being deformed in a microscope mountable uniaxial tensile stage. A serive
of timelapse images are collected to record the evidents.  The particle is
being observed in with a Nikon microscope under 20-50x magnification.  The
particle (~200 microns) is embedded in a uniaxial tensile specimen that is
die cut from a thin film of cured polymer. The particle is randomly
oriented.  Unfortunatey, I believe now that the particle is reorienting
during deformation of the polymer which makes accurate measurement of the
surface area problematic.  Does anyone know of any existing codes that
could analyze the images to aid in the estimation of surface area?
