Pore Volume and Volume Porosity derived from CT Slices

kavanaa1
Hi,

I have hundreds of CT scan slices that were taken from metal specimens to determine the amount of contained porosity. I want to try extract a total volume porosity measurement from each specimen, but the pores are very small relative to the cross section of the slices (50-100 micron pore diameters in a 6mm diameter section).
Is it possible within Image J to take the sequence of these slices and determine the shape of the pore and the volume porosity value. Attached is an example of the raw image slice.

thank you

Good day,

with respect to the provided image I doubt that the spatial resolution
is sufficient for pore analysis. Furthermore, the image--though in
PNG-format--suffers from extreme compression artifacts.

Are the original images JPEG-compressed?
If yes, they aren't suited for serious analyses.

Best

Herbie

Thanks for the reply Herbie, you are right the images that were provided to me are JPEGs so I'm looking into getting them in another format that might help. It's not possible to work out volume porosity (accurately) with this resolution issue sadly. Might be back in touch if I can get an improved image format.

Thank you
Alan
