Problems with installation on Mac OS X Yosemite + Java8 not recognised

athene_ldn
Hello,

I am trying to install FIJI on my Mac OS X Yosemite (version 10.10.2) to no avail. Everytime I try to run it, it tells me 'To view this web content, you need to install the Java Runtime Environment'.

I have Java 8 Update 45 installed, and have verified the installation as well as restarted my computer a few times, but it still pops up with this error message and won't progress beyond that.

I have tried a few Java 8 /Mac OS X Yosemite related fixes from this forum but nothing seems to work. Any help on how I can resolve this is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Athene

Try installing Java 6 from Apple, available at

     https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572

Or download the version of ImageJ bundled with Java 8, available at

    http://imagej.nih.gov/ij/download.html

If you do get ImageJ or Fiji running with Java 8, use the Help>Update ImageJ command to upgrade to the daily build, which works around a nasty Java 8 bug on Macs that causes ImageJ to hang when using the "Channels” dialog to change the composite image display mode.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks very much for your help! As I wanted FIJI I downloaded Java 6 and now it is starting up fine. However, updating doesn't work as it says it is 'read-only'.

Thanks

Hi Athene,

Did you drag your Fiji icon into the Applications folder to install it?

Curtis
