Quantifying irregular bubbles

Hi there,

I'm trying to quantify the amount of irregular bubbles through a wave. I have a picture attached. I've used a picture sequence, but I can't seem to figure out how I could somehow quantify the bubbles in focus for each frame. Thanks for any tips!
