Hi Maziar,

Rob has already detailed the options you have available to increase your signal for the camera.

If you don't have these options available in your control software, you could see if Micro-Manager can control your camera and provide binning for example. Binning of 2 would allow you to use a quarter of the exposure time although the resolution is of course reduced accordingly.

I had a look at the Micro-Manager device support page: http://valelab.ucsf.edu/~MM/MMwiki/index.php/Device_Support and there seem to be a few device adapters/controllers available for Canon cameras. Perhaps one of them will work for you.

This isn't really an ImageJ question, but your options are: 1) to using
binning and see if it helps; or 2)  increase exposure time during live
capture; or 3) increase the gain on the camera.

Of course, the cost of the first is loss of pixel resolution; the cost
of the second is lowering the upper limit of capture rate in fps; and 3)
the cost of the third is increasing noise because it will be amplified
with your signal.

Rob and Jacqui, thank you both very much for your considerate replies. I
have already looked at Micro Manager, and spent hours trying to get it
to work with my camera. I was able to use a third party program/plugin
(DSLRRemotePro) suggested at MM's website to connect to the camera, but
seemingly it doesn't give me the option to alter binning, gain or
exposure time. Still I'm not able neither to transfer the video stream
to or control the camera with MM through DSLRRemotePro. I will probably
give it one more try before I completely give up though.
