Resizing individual stack images before pasting them to a montage

I am still learning macro programming by modifying MakeMontage, where
individual stack images are copied and pasted to a larger montage.

How can I resize them indivually before pasting ? Or perform other
operations on individual slices ? Should I paste each slice to a
temporary image, resize and modify it as required, then re-copy it and
paste it to the montage, or is there a more elegant way ?
