Segmenting a line

The overlays in Object Image have been very useful for segmenting a user-defined ROI into regions for
subsequent analysis by thresholding or manual counts of objects.  I would like to transfer this to
ImageJ.  The specific current need is for a user to trace a spiralling tissue (cultured mammalian Organ of
Corti) then have ImageJ mark off regions at defined distances from one end of the line.  

Has anyone already build a macro or plugin that will do this?  Nothing shows up in a search of the
ImageJ archives.

There will be a talk by Norbert Vischer about "ObjectJ", a successor of
ObjectImage, on the ImageJ conference. See

I haven't come across the plugin on the web, yet. I hope it will be
released after the talk.
