Showing the uncalibrated ROI position

Stein Rørvik
If you create a selection on a calibrated image, the uncalibrated width and height is shown in parenthesis after the calibrated width and height in the status bar.

For example, on the "CT (420K, 16-bit DICOM)" a ROI with coordinates x=100, y=100, w=300, Y=200 is shown in the status bar as
x=59.68, y=54.55, w=179.05 (300), h=109.09 (200)

It would be very useful if this could be shown as
x=59.68 (100), y=54.55 (100), w=179.05 (300), h=109.09 (200)
instead.

Similarly, if you hold the mouse pointer over the coordinates x=100, y=100 the status bar shows
x=59.68, y=54.55, value=-437.00 (32331)

It would be very useful if this too could be shown as
x=59.68 (100), y=54.55 (100), value=-437.00 (32331)
instead.

If this was changed, it would make it easier to work with selections on spatially calibrated images.

Hold down the alt key and the x and y coordinates will be displayed in pixels.

Re: Showing the uncalibrated ROI position

Stein Rørvik
I tried this but it does not help.

If I hold down the alt (or shift) key on a ROI, the status bar will show the current mouse position instead of the upper left corner of the ROI. And if I try to move the ROI with the alt key down, a new selection is subtracted inside the current selection instead. If I make a new selection with the alt key down, only the current mouse position is shown, instead of the width/height of the selection. What I try to do (on a spatially calibrated image) is to make an ROI of a desired pixel size and then move it to a desired pixel position without having to write a macro, and that would be much easier if both the calibrated and uncalibrated position and size was shown simultaneously.

This is the way the latest daily build (1.51u7) works.

Re: Showing the uncalibrated ROI position

Stein Rørvik
Thank, this works great!

It does however not work properly when enforcing square selections using the shift key or subtracting ROI with the alt key, because the shift/alt key will make ImageJ show the pixel position of the mouse pointer instead, so the status bar flickers quickly between these two views when moving the mouse. I suggest that the "press shift or alt key to show pixel position" functionality should now be removed, since it is no longer needed; the pixel position will always be shown both for ROIs and the current mouse pointer with this new version.

Re: Showing the uncalibrated ROI position

Stein Rørvik
Thanks; it works better now but it is still not perfect.

The problem is that the current mouse position instead of the ROI coordinates is shown when the shift or alt key is down, so the status bar flickers between the two views. It is therefore not possible to see the ROI size when trying to make square selections (shift key) or a creating a new selection to be subtracted from the previous one (alt key) as the mouse coordinate is shown last. The same problem applies to polygon selections; the angle or length of the new line segment is not shown when the shift or alt button is down. I think the mouse coordinate should only be shown when moving the cursor with the mouse buttons non-pressed, except when making freehand selections, where the mouse coordinate should be shown always.
