Hi all,
At the moment a question I was asked bothers me, since I still haven't found a satisfying answer.
Would it be possible to measure a straight line distance along a surface (not a straight line in 3D space but a fitted line along the surface in one direction) e.g. by specifying start- and end-point in the 3D viewer or in any kind of projection. I was playing around a little and a possibility would be to transform the 3D information in a way that a line could be drawn in the desired direction. Then a slice of the projection is taken, thresholded, outlined and the distance is determined along the outline from start to end.
But I am well aware that this is far from elegant, tedious and error prone. Unfortunately, I am stuck at the moment in solving this.
Potentially there is already a tool available which could do that and I still haven't found it yet or does anybody of you have a hint on how to measure or estimate such a distance along a surface on the respective 3D mesh.
Looking forward to any suggestion and thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Jan
