Subtracting one image from another

Goodday everyone,

I would like to ask for your help with my project for physics. The idea is that I calculate the thickness of soap bubbles by colour matching. In order to do this, I have to substract an image without a bubble from an image with a bubble. The experiment perscription I found on the internet, said that I should use ImageJ, which was completely foreign to me,to do this. I have tried to look at other posts describing what to do, however I could not make sense of them. So if anyone could explain in really simple terms how to solve this problem, that would really be great.

Thanks in advance,

Emmalouise, student in the Netherlands

Hi,
1. Start ImageJ
2. Mark and drop the two images into the ImageJ window (from your local explorer/finder)
3. Select from the Menu "Process -> Image Calculator…"
There you will find "Subtract" and … Possibly the result should be 32-bit, allowing also negative result values!
Hopefully that is a solution for the problem not only for the subtraction!
Regards
Karsten

Thank you, Karsten :)

Could you please explain how to get both images in the same frame. I can only get both images in a different frame, I don't know if this makes sense to you. As I said before, I've never worked with this program before.

Thanks again, Emmalouise

Following Karsten's instructions will initially have your 2 input
images, but if you check the "create new window" box in image calculator
dialog, the subtracted "result" will be in a single third window.
