I'm a beginning graduate student, and our lab has recently begun exploring ImageJ as a tool for analyzing Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) plates.
In our efforts to select the best method for analyzing our plates, we've focused on the software's ability to analyze electrophoretic gel, as TLC plates show similar patterns of banding. My question pertains to the profile plots generated for each lane. What does the curve represent? For example, what are the correct labels for the X and Y axes? What is the algorithm, if any, used to generate the curve?
Is there any other function on ImageJ which might be better for analyzing TLC plates? I've played around with the integrated density function on ImageJ and other image software, and often, my results are similar to the results obtained from the gel analysis method. If anyone else is using ImageJ for analyzing TLC plates, I would love to hear about your methods.
Thanks,
