Threshold at high density regions

hi,

I'm sorry if this issue has been raised before.
I was using Otsu's mothod to threshold a fracture in a rock sample.
However, it appears that the threshold underestimates fracture aperture
adjacent to high density zones. Is there any technique to solve this kind
of problem?
