Using FracLac to assess general site heterogeneity

Kara M
Hello All,

I'm interested in comparing images of grassland sites (taken on foot, rather than by satellite) in terms of how variable they are. FracLac's metric of lacunarity seems perfect to the task, however, if I want to just use a single metric to compare a suite of 60 images I'm unsure how to proceed.

From the manual and the work that I have done so far, it seems like the best way to characterize heterogeneity in a general sense is to compare the slope of ln lacunarity plotted against ln box size. Is this correct? How can I get these slopes in the software? The only place that I see slope on the output is on some of the myriad graphs. I'm not sure what these all are, and the slopes are variable.

Am I on the right track here? Do folks have a suggestion for what metric to use and where to get it? Other software or methods would be fine too.

Thanks so much!

Hi.  If you could send me some sample images (send them to [hidden email]), I will take a look at them and tell you more about what to use.
Regards,
Audrey Karperien
