Using imageJ to enhance a fingerprint left in paint

Hi,

I am doing research project and need some pointers.
My aim to to enhance fingerprint images to retrieve ridge detail.
The images are of fingerprints left in paint and photographed
I have very basic Knowledge of imagej.

Can anyone offer me any advice?
