Vaskularisation image select and count blobs

I have an image like the one posted below and I would like to write a Plugin which selects all red/blue blobs in the selection and displays information about them such as size and position.

The blobs are always in the green square and will always be the same color. Does anybody have an idea how I should proceed with this task? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
