Hi,
Since my last Fiji Update (2.0.0-rc-4/1.49a; Java 1.6.0_65 [64-bit] on MacOS X 10.9.3), I have the following problems: 1. Fiji starts, I can scroll through the menus, but I need to wait approx 70 sec before anything happens (i.e. I go to help> about ImageJ, then the windows pops up only 1min later. Same for Plugins>Bioformats importer, etc). After this 70sec period, all works fine (with no delay). 2. When I drag and drop a file, it opens double (see screenshot below). 3. I always get at start the message asking whether I want to accept incoming network connections. Although I set up my Firewall settings as indicated, it stills pops up all the time. Many thanks for your help, Best regards, Laurent. Hi Laurent,
> I need to wait approx 70 sec before anything happens Almost certainly a networking issue indeed. Something is trying to talk to the Internet, and timing out after 60 seconds or so. The update check was blocking ImageJ until the network requested completed. In your case, due to firewall issues, that was taking >60s, so everything ground to a halt. We uploaded a fix [1], so hopefully the problem will now be resolved if you update to the latest version. But even with this fix, note that your up-to-date check will still take 60 seconds to resolve. And since it is almost certainly timing out, you probably won't actually be notified of any updates. This is surely very related to your firewall issue below. > When I drag and drop a file, it opens double (see screenshot below). I can replicate that problem if I "Switch to Modern Mode" and then switch back to legacy mode, before dragging and dropping. In that case, it is a known bug. But if you just drag and drop onto a freshly opened Fiji that hasn't mucked around with the "modern mode" at all, do you still see this behavior? If so, I cannot reproduce here. In any case, I would advise avoiding the "modern mode" for now (it's very buggy) unless you are a developer exploring the new interface itself or its capabilities (e.g., ImageJ2 tool plugins). > I always get at start the message asking whether I want to accept incoming > network connections. Which firewall software are you using?
