What is better for a shed - a concrete foundation or a gravel pad?

ron4543

Hello everyone! I am planning to build a shed, the size is about 10x14 feet. I am thinking about which foundation to choose: concrete or gravel? Some say concrete is stronger, others say gravel holds well and is cheaper. My soil is clayey, it is a little damp in the spring, the site is level. The budget is not unlimited, but I do not want to save too much - so as not to redo it later. Has anyone encountered such conditions? Share your experience, which is better?

At first, I also thought about concrete, but then I turned to the guys from https://www.siteprep.com/. They advised me to make a gravel pad with drainage. Clay is a capricious soil, so drainage is a must. They removed the top layer of soil, leveled it, made drainage and laid crushed stone - quickly and efficiently. For the second year, the shed has been standing level, without distortions and problems. If the budget is limited, gravel is a great option, the main thing is that the installation is done correctly.

Hi! I also have a barn on gravel at my dacha, and everything is great. Concrete is, of course, reliable, but it is more expensive and takes longer to make. The main thing is good preparation and drainage. If everything is done correctly, a gravel foundation will not be inferior to concrete. I think  choice depends on the budget and site conditions.
